7 Secrets to Writing a Powerful CV
Your CV is the first step in the hiring process. Employers spend only 6–10 seconds scanning each CV. That's why yours must grab attention at first glance.
1. Clear and concise structure
Keep your CV to a maximum of 2 pages. Long, cluttered CVs don't get read. Separate each section with clear headings.
2. Tailor your CV for each job
Never send the same CV everywhere. Customise it to match the requirements of each position you apply for.
3. Achievements, not just duties
Instead of "I was head of sales", write "I increased sales by 35% in 6 months". Numbers are convincing.
4. Include keywords
Many companies filter CVs through ATS software. Include keywords from the job listing in your CV.
5. Professional email address
Use a firstname.lastname@gmail.com format. Old or informal addresses create a negative impression.
6. Social profile links
Add your LinkedIn profile link. If you have a portfolio site — definitely include it.
7. Proofread, then proofread again
Typos send your CV straight to the bin. Read it at least twice and have someone else check it too.
